small projects in the cul-de-sac today
by Bella Rum
Not a raindrop in the forecast and H didn’t have to leave for work untill 11 o’clock. I thought it was a good time to ask him to remove the light fixtures on either side of the front door so I could paint them. There’s brass underneath all that black paint – brass plate. When we moved into this house nine years ago, I sprayed them black with a matte finish. They’ve held up fairly well, but it was time for a fresh coat.
The house was only four-years-old when we moved in, and they were already pitted and looked quite lousy. Brass didn’t work with this house anyway. With our light yellow house as a backdrop, the fixtures disappeared. They are the “bottom” of the line in light fixtures (surely builders choice), but they worked fine and still do.
Paint makes everything better. They’re going to put that on my tombstone. I ask you, is there anything from a woman’s face to a garage door that couldn’t benefit from a fresh coat of paint? It’s the cheapest, easiest, fastest and most surefire way to try to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. No doubt, it’s still a sow’s ear, but isn’t it pretty?
